Gleidson Martins was born in Brasilia, the youngest of 6 children. He was raised in Araguari, a small town in Minas Gerais state, Brazil. When he was 6 he lost his father, and his mother worked hard to give an education to all her children.
Gleidson started working in the news while he was still in college. His first article was an opinion piece which led to his becoming a columnist for a local magazine, Roteiro.
In 2001 he started his first-ever talking show for a production company. This aired on TV Vitoriosa, an affiliate of SBT, one of the largest Brazilian TV networks. During the following four years he became a well-known journalist, and began writing a column about movies, books, and events for a regional newspaper, Gazeta do Triangulo. He later wrote investigation pieces for the Gazeta, and investigative journalism quickly became his passion.
The Gazeta owned a magazine called Evidencia, for which Gleidson was originally a reporter, later an editor, and, in his final year of living in Brazil, Executive Director.
In 2007, Gleidson and his team created another magazine, Bella, which was aimed at a female audience.
In July of the same year, he moved to the United States in order to learn English.
Gleidson attended college in order to learn video editing and producing. He worked as a production assistant at KRON 4, and in the Broadcasting Department at City College of San Francisco. Later he worked at CBS San Francisco, beginning as intern in the Communications Department, moving on to the newsroom as Production Assistant, and finally video editor for their live morning show. As PA, he researched several stories, then co-produced “Missing Men”, for which he was an Emmy Award nominee.
In 2017 he founded News UpNOW, a digital medium nonprofit with one vision – to produce content on Bay Area arts, education, entertainment and community.
From 2022 to 2024, Gleidson worked for Meta as an executive producer.
